Hello my name is Brian, I was born in Tiger's Bay a loyalist area of North Belfast. Over 30 years of trouble North Belfast was the centre of most murders. My father was a memeber of the UDA a loyalist renegade army and our area was mixed between UDA and UVF members both loyalist paramilitary groupings who opposed anything Irish.
I was brought up believing that Catholics were my enemy and that the PIRA were out to destroy my British identity.
My mother worked in a local loyalist pub and my father was an alcoholic who spent much of his time with her in the pub. Alcohol, was a constant problem in our family. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
At a very early age I started drinking and taking whatever substance out there that would get me high. From drugs, tablets, glue and petrol even gas.

As a kid, my parents took me the sort of church that give churches a bad name, short on real life, long on fire and brimstone. Most of the people were ignorant in the extreme, and it also followed a particularly stupid racist line that God's chosen people were the English, and regularly threw out a few totally random bible verses to try to justify it. Really stupid, and all in all, NOT a nice place!
When I was a teenager, the natural choice would have been to jack in church entirely, but that never quite happened. Instead I started taking myself to a wholly different church just up the road. I'd like to say that it was for really deep and meaningful reasons, but the major factor was that it had a massive Youth Group with lots of pretty girls, and I went to a lads-only school.

I believe in God because ...there is no other explanation for what has happenend in His world and in my life. I used to be an ahiest but when I went to church to begin with i though it was wack but for some strange reason i felt i had to be there to know for sure |
